MS: Wearable Paper Sculptures
One of the assignments I had at RISD was to make jewelry only using books. It was a fun project so I did a similar variation using magazine paper. I ripped a bunch of paper by color and demonstrated basic shapes, like the coil and fan. Some students expanded on those while others created totally different designs. I can definitely see these on the runway!

These are absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThese are outstanding! I would totally wear them! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Me too!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit speechless, these are Beautiful! I enjoy any project that uses free/inexpensive materials. These definitely make a statement.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie!! I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, Ruth! Awesome idea and it uses the Eco friendly, reduce, reuse, and recycle creed!I can't wait to try this with my kiddo's!
ReplyDeleteHi its Clara and you and your class show great flame (you know, good juice :D) in your artwork.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of glue did they use to hold it all together? These are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank you Amanda! we used transparent tape for the individual parts and a little hot glue to hold the whole structure together. I think I tried glue, but tape was faster. Hope that helps! Let me know if you find a better alternative:)
ReplyDeleteOops, I meant that I tried regular liquid glue for the individual parts, but it was taking a while to dry so we used tape.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth! I was wondering how you did the coils so they weren't too fat. I'm not very crafty, and am struggling with it...:-( I'm also having a hard time with the base of the fans being too thick. LOVE these!

Thank you Sandi! I think the fewer times you fold the strips, the thinner the coil will be. They tend to bunch up a little when you roll them, which adds to the bulk. Unfortunately, I don't know how to avoid that:/ We taped the base of the fans, but using string might look more aesthetic.
